Coral Cutie Hat & Booties

SKILL LEVEL :EASY

GAUGE: 18 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 22 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Garter Stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

Using this chenille yarn ensures that this hat and booties will be truly soft on  aby’s delicate skin. Choose from the many beautiful bright baby colors and knit these accessories to keep baby warm and comfy!

Directions are for 3-6 months. Change for size 6-12 months is in parentheses. Finished Head Circumference: 14” [36 cm], (15½)” [39 cm].

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together (1 stitch decreased).
Make 1 = M1 – Insert the left needle from back to front into the horizontal strand
between the last stitch worked and the next stitch on the left needle. Knit this strand through the front loop to twist the stitch.
Sk2p = Slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over – 2 stitches decreased.
SSK = Slip, slip, knit (1 stitch decreased).
YO = Yarn over.

PATTERN STITCHES
Stockinette Stitch
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit all sts.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Purl all sts..
Repeat rows 1-2.

Garter Stitch
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit all sts.
Row 2: (Wrong Side): Knit all sts..
Repeat rows 1-2.

HAT
With A and smaller size needles, cast on 65(72) sts.
Rows 1-11: Knit every row (Garter St.).
Row 12 (Wrong Side): Change to B and purl across row. For size 3-6 months:
Rows 13-23 (Right Side): Knit every row (Garter St.). For size 6-12 months:
Rows 13-29 (Right Side): Knit every row (Garter St.).

 

SHAPE CROWN
(For size 6-12 months only)
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k8, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 65 sts.
Next Row and all (Wrong Side Rows): Knit across row.
For both sizes:
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k7, k2tog*repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 58 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k6, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 51 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k5, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 44 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k4, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 37 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k3, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 30 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k2, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 23 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, *k1, k2tog*,repeat from ** to last st, k1 — 16 sts.
Next Row (Right Side): K1, k2tog to last st,k1 — 9 sts..
Next Row: Knit across row.

FINISHING
For both sizes, cut yarn leaving a 12” [30 cm] tail. Thread tail through yarn needle and draw through remaining sts twice. Draw up firmly; fasten securely. Sew seam.
Weave in ends.

 

FLOWER
With crochet hook and A, chain 6 sts and join with a slip st.
1st Round: *Work 2 single crochet stitches in next stitch, chain 1*; repeat 5 more times.
2nd Round: *Chain 5, work 1 single crochet in next 2 sts*; repeat 6 more times. You will have 7 petals. Fasten off. Using yarn needle, attach flower to hat.

BOOTIES (Left and Right Booties)
Note: Cast on edge is bottom of sole.
With A and larger size needles, cast on 24 (28) sts.
Rows 1-4: Knit across row.
Row 5 (Increase Row): K1, make 1, k9 (11) sts, (make 1, k1) 4 times, make 1, k9 (11), make 1, k1 — 31 (35) sts.
Next Rows: Continue working in Garter St. and cast on 1 st at the beginning of next 2 rows — 33 (37) sts.
Next Rows: Change to color B and knit 4 (6) rows.
Next Row (Begin shaping): K11 (13), ssk, k7, k2tog, knit 11 (13) — 31 (35) sts.
Next Row: Knit across row.
Next Row (Decrease Row): K11 (13), ssk, k1, sk2p, k1, k2tog, k11 (13) — 27 (31) sts.
Next Row: Knit across row. Set up for T-Strap, Button Tab and Strap:
Next Row: With Right Side facing, k6 (7) sts. Slip sts. to st. holder. Bind off 6 (7) sts. K2 sts — 3 sts are now on Right-Hand needle. Slip 3 sts to st. holder.
Bind off next 6 (7) sts. and k remaining 6 (7) sts. to end of row.

Strap
Next Row: With Wrong Side facing, k across first 6 (7) sts., then cast on 14 (16) sts.
Next Row: K across row — 20 (23) sts.
Next Row: K to last 3 sts., yo, k2tog, k1.
Next Row: Bind off all sts.

T-Strap
Next Rows: Slip 3 sts from second st. holder on to needle. K16 (18) rows.
Next Row: Bind off all sts. Fold 1” [2.5 cm] of T-Strap over and stitch bind off edge to Wrong Side of Strap.

Button Tab
Next Rows: Slip 6 (7) Button Tab sts from first st. holder on to needle. K3 rows.
Next Row: Bind off all sts. Right Bootie only
Button Tab
Next Rows: With Wrong Side facing, k3 rows on first 6 (7) stitches.
Next Row: Bind off all Button Tab sts.
T-Strap
Next Rows: Slip 3 sts from second st. holder on to needle and k16 (18) rows for T-Strap.
Next Row: Bind off all sts.
Fold 1” [2.5 cm] of T-Strap over and stitch bind off edge to Wrong Side of Strap.
Strap
Next Rows: Cast on 14 (16) sts on RightHand needle then knit across 6 (7) stitches from first st. holder — 20 (23) sts.
Next Row: K1 row.
Next Row: K1, k2tog, yo, k to end.
Next Row: Bind off all sts..

 

FINISHING
Fold Booties in half. Using yarn needle and A, sew seam from bottom cast on edge for center of sole. Change to B when sewing along back seam edge. Using sewing needle and white thread, sew button on edge of Button Tab. Pull Strap through T-Strap loop. Weave in ends.
