Crochet a sweater as special as that little girl is! We’ve included sizes from 1 through 8 so you can transfer the crown to a larger size sweater as she grows.
GAUGE: 12 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 14 rows = 4” [10 cm] in single crochet using 6.5mm [US K-10½] hook. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Directions are for size 1 year. Change for sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8 years are in parentheses.
Chest: 23 (25, 26, 29, 30)” [58 (64, 66, 74, 76) cm]
Length: 10½ (11½, 12½, 13½, 15½)” [26.5 (29, 32, 34.5, 39.5) cm]
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
Dc3tog: [Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 3 times all in same st or space, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.
BACK
With 6.5mm [US K-10½] hook and A, ch 36 (38, 40, 44, 46).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 35 (37, 39, 43, 45) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Repeat last row until piece measures 5½ (6, 6½, 7½, 9)” [14 (15, 16.5, 19, 23) cm] from beginning.
Shape Armholes
Next Row: Turn, slip st over first 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) sc, ch 1, sc in each sc across to last 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) sc, leave remaining sts unworked – 31 (33, 35, 37, 39) sc.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9½ (10½, 11½, 12½, 14½)” [24 (26.5, 29, 32, 37) cm] from beginning. Fasten off.
FRONT
Work same as Back until piece measures 7½ (8½, 9½, 10½, 12½)” [19 (21.5, 24, 27, 32) cm] from beginning.
Shape First Shoulder and Neck
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) sc, leave remaining sts unworked for Neck and Second Shoulder – 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) sc.
Decrease Row 2: Ch 1, turn, skip first sc, sc in each sc across – 9 (10 11, 12, 13) sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.Repeat last 2 rows 2 more times – 7 (8, 9, 10,11) sc. Fasten off.
Shape Second Shoulder and Neck
Row 1: Skip next 11 unworked sts on Row 1,join A in next st, ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in remaining sts across – 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Decrease Row 3: Ch 1, turn, skip first sc, sc in each sc across – 9 (10, 11, 12, 13) sc. Repeat last 2 rows 2 more times – 7 (8, 9, 10,11) sc.Fasten off.
SLEEVES
With 6.5mm [US K-10½] hook and A, ch 21 (21, 24, 24, 27).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 20 (20, 23, 23, 26) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Increase Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc – 22 (22, 25, 25, 28) sc.
Rows 4-10: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Increase Row 11: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc – 24 (24, 27, 27, 30) sc.
Rows 12-27: Repeat Rows 4-11 twice – 28 (28, 31, 31, 34) sc.
Row 28: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Repeat last row until piece measures 7½ (9, 10, 10½, 11½)” [19 (23, 25.5, 26.5, 29) cm] from beginning.
Fasten off
CROWN
With 3.75mm [US F-5] size hook and B, ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across – 12 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), turn, dc in next st, *ch 1, skip
next st, dc in next st; repeat from * across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across – 12 sts.
Row 4: Ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), turn, hdc in first st, dc3tog all in next st, hdc in next st, [dc3tog all in next st] 3 times, hdc in next st, dc3tog all in next st, hdc in next st, dc3tog all in next st, hdc in last st.
Row 5: Ch 6, turn, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 8, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 8, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 6, sc in last st. Fasten off.
Row 6: Join B in last st of Row 5, ch 1, work 6 sc in ch-6 space, [work 8 sc in next ch-8 space] twice, 6 sc in next ch-6 space, slip st in first st of Row 5. Fasten off.
Row 7: Join B in space in between ch-8 spaces on Row 5, (ch 3, dc3tog, ch 3, slip st) all in same st. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew Crown in center of Front.Sew Shoulder seams. Sew in Sleeves. Sew side seams and Sleeve seams.Neck Edging With right side facing and 6mm [US J-10] hook, join B at Neck edge of one shoulder seam.
Round 1: Work sc evenly around Neck edge,slip st in first sc to join.
Rounds 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, slipst in first sc.Fasten off.
Sleeve Edging
With right side facing and 6mm [US J-10] hook, join B at lower edge at Sleeve seam.
Round 1: Work sc evenly around lower edge,slip st in first sc to join.
Rounds 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.
Fasten off.
Repeat around lower edge of second Sleeve.
Lower Edging
With right side facing and 6mm [US J-10] hook, join B at lower edge at side seam.
Round 1: Work sc evenly around lower edge, slip st in first sc to join.
Rounds 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
